From building to skyline
The BASF headquarters in Cesano Maderno (near Milan) consist of two separate buildings that are of no particular historic industrial importance, but are in great need of renovation. Redevelopment, both functional and architectural, aims to increase the value of the buildings without the need for excessively invasive works or onerous costs and redefine the public and private access flows.
In this way, the buildings became a true skyline created by a continuous facade that does not affect the existing one. An extended landscape which, by following a jagged line, mirrors the shape of the surrounding mountains. The external square at the base of the facade has alternating open and covered spaces which allows the incoming flows to be selected and separated. A solution that maximises the value of the buildings by optimising investments, it controls traffic by speeding up access and highlights the BASF technological solutions that are used to cover the facade.
